The press is talking about it: Our urban design strategies developed with Trois-Rivières and Brossard

Creating Moments, Structuring Uses

At QDSinternational, we are convinced that public art is a fully-fledged urban planning tool. By making art accessible to everyone, it encourages civic participation, fosters a sense of ownership of public spaces, and contributes in a lasting way to the cultural vitality and visibility of cities.

This winter, Trois-Rivières and Brossard called on QDSinternational, in collaboration with the expertise of the Quartier des spectacles de Montréal, to activate their public spaces during the winter season. Each local context led to a tailored urban design strategy. The success of these initiatives is reflected both in strong public engagement and in significant media coverage.

Trois-Rivières — Revitalizing the Downtown

Works: Îlot de chaleur and Iceberg

In a context marked by the temporary closure of the theatre for renovations, the City of Trois-Rivières sought to maintain a strong and visible winter cultural offering in its downtown core. QDSinternational was commissioned to design an activation strategy capable of compensating for the absence of a major cultural venue while recreating gathering points within the public realm.

The deployment of Îlot de chaleur and Iceberg made it possible to structure a luminous and interactive pathway, inviting residents to reclaim snow-covered streets. Conceived as tools for urban activation, these installations generated new uses, encouraged pedestrian movement, and enhanced the attractiveness of the downtown area during winter.

This approach was praised by the media, notably by Radio-Canada, in a program hosted by Perrine Bullant dedicated to Iceberg, highlighting the installation’s impact on urban vitality and the public experience.

Brossard — Integrating an Iconic Artwork into a Civic Event

Work: Prismatica

An emblematic work in QDSinternational’s repertoire, Prismatica has been presented in more than 50 cities across five countries. In Brossard, its installation was part of an urban design strategy aimed at enhancing the Grand Parc Urbain and strengthening its role as a unifying public space.

The installation was closely integrated with La Grande Marche de Brossard, held on October 18, 2025. The 25 interactive modules of Prismatica enriched the event by offering an immersive experience combining light, color, and interaction, while supporting pedestrian flows and festive uses linked to Halloween.

This successful integration of an artistic work within a local event illustrates the potential of installations distributed by QDSinternational as levers for cultural and event-based urban development. The initiative benefited from strong media visibility, notably through TV Rive-Sud and Le Courrier du Sud.

Local Strategies, Shared Visibility

Through its collaborations with Trois-Rivières and Brossard, QDSinternational demonstrates how public art can become a strategic urban planning tool—adaptable to local realities and capable of generating cultural, social, and media-related benefits. When the press takes notice, it also reflects cities choosing to invest in their public spaces as places of encounter, experience, and collective storytelling.
