Montreal, March 20, 2024 – After presentations in Montreal, Frankfurt, Tunis and United Nations Headquarters in New York, Un cœur nomade is heading to Paris. The exhibition, produced by the Quartier des Spectacles Partnership and distributed by Quartier des spectacles international, invites everyone to discover the graphical and literary world of author and Académie française member Dany Laferrière, from the iconic Pont des Arts to the forecourt of the Institut de France.

The exhibition, which had its world première in 2020 on the Promenade des Artistes in the Quartier des Spectacles, will be presented in conjunction with the Festival du Livre de Paris, which is honouring Quebec this year. Un cœur nomade is a colourful look at the writer’s life, focused on five cities that have left an indelible impression on him. Born in Port-au-Prince, he was raised by his grandmother in Petit-Goâve, then emigrated to Montreal, where he published all of his books. He then had a long sojourn in Miami before moving to Paris, where he was admitted to the Académie française. Drawing inspiration from five of Laferrière’s graphic books – Autoportrait de Paris avec Chat, Vers d’autres rives, L’exil vaut le voyage, Sur la route avec Bashō and Dans la splendeur de la nuit – Un cœur nomade invites visitors to immerse themselves in a fascinating autobiographical journey.

 « I have walked
day and night
through Paris
for so long now
that I wonder
who inhabits who
always touched to know
that a poet named Villon
did it before me.
»
Dany Laferrière, member of the Académie française

Un cœur nomade is a perfect example of a project that fulfills the Partnership’s and QDSinternational’s shared mission of animating public space and democratizing culture. We are very proud that this exhibition, originally created in celebration of the first 35 years of Dany Laferrière’s literary career, showcases Montreal and Quebec around the world. We are thrilled with the evolution of Un cœur nomade and the unique platform it provides for the acclaimed Haitian-Québécois author and the other Québécois authors involved in the Festival du Livre. This is another fine opportunity to invite the people of France to explore Québécois culture,” said Monique Simard, chair of the boards of directors of the Quartier des Spectacles Partnership and of Quartier des spectacles international.

Presented at the invitation of the city of Paris and the Institut de France, the exhibition strengthens cultural ties between France and Quebec while providing an opportunity for the French public to discover Québécois literature through the prism of the work of Laferrière and the 41 other authors involved in the Festival.

Un cœur nomade benefits from the financial support of the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec (CALQ), the Société de développement des entreprises culturelles (SODEC), Tourisme Montréal, the Ville de Montréal and the Ministère de la Culture et des Communications du Québec in partnership with the Festival du Livre de Paris, the Association nationale des éditeurs de livres (ANEL) and the Délégation générale du Québec à Paris.
